A significant amount of work has been done in the area of transparent, high hardness cast polymers. Initial systems developed at Simula, Inc. were licensed to PPG, who in turn licensed to Hoya in Japan and Younger Optics in California for use in RX lenses only. They were licensed to InterCast Europe for non-RX lenses, goggles and face shields. In the industry these lenses are known as Trivex, Phoenix and Trilogy.
New generations of cast optical polymers have been developed. This next generation shows enhanced properties and processing properties superior to previous generations.
At the present time, a family of new, translucent and opaque polymers is being developed for use in areas of impact resistance, heat resistance, fungus resistance and UV resistance. To date our material has shown excellent results in all required areas. These materials can be furnished in the neat condition or filled, depending on specified application.
